Sorry but I don't know what day we are on. Thank you for all of your advice, prayers and support in the comments. It means a lot to us!
The boys didn't go to sleep until 11pm last night. They slept all night which is more than I can say for Robin and I. It was freezing and we gave the boys all the blankets. To date we have only been sleeping with a sheet but last night we needed more. At 3am I got up and boiled water and put hot pots of water around our room but they didn't help. Luckily the boys were warm and didn't wake up until 8am.
Yuri picked up right where he left off. He fought the diaper change, getting dressed, he would sit still a moment and then start up again. We haven't found a trigger other than he wants to be in full control. We have tried everything that was suggested in the comments and they only magnify things. His music would only keep him still a song and then he would throw the phone. He won't keep head phones in or watch tv and the sleep aid I gave him didn't work at all.
Thank the Lord for the stroller. I don't know what we would do if we didn't have it. He will sit in there. He fusses and squirms and rocks, and bangs and throws what he can but it is a safe place for him to do this. He actually fell asleep in it today at the embassy.
Robin and I are done and done. We are looking forward to and dreading the trip all at the same time. Thank you for your prayers.
Oh yeah and Bohdan...... he is happy as a clam!!!
Praying you home!! One day you will look back on this and laugh. For now - one single step at a time as you get those boys home! You are covered in prayer!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your journey. What precious little boys. Helping to pray you home from VA.
ReplyDeleteOh Autumn, I'm so sorry. I know that has got to be so tough.
ReplyDeleteI understand his world has been rocked and flipped upside down and he's probably feeling totally out of control and insecure and overstimulated, etc. But that doesn't really make it any easier for you.
Praying for the trip home for you and Robin and Yuri and even Bodhan--I mean, he has to listen to his brother! ;)
Yea to Bohdan for being such a trooper!!! I am SO happy to read that he is transitioning into life with Momma so well:)
ReplyDeletePoor Yuri (and Momma and Auntu), my heart breaks for him. If only we could understand exactly what he is thinking and feeling.... Isn't that what every parent wishes when their baby is unhappy, to be able to read their mind and know how to fix it?
Can't wait for all of you to be home, and for your family to be together :-)
Hang in there Autumn (& Robin too)!! It will get better!! Once he is home and you can let him have his own space for his fits, he'll realize that they aren't all that exciting. When he does it now you are doing all that you can to make him happy so he'll settle down which probably only makes it worse. At home, you can put him in a safe place and let him go. Timothy pushed me (and still does on ocassion)because he thought the attention he got from throwing things or getting into things or running from me was the only attention he was going to get so he kept doing it. Now that we're home, time outs for the bad stuff and lots of snuggling has changed everything. Praying for your next couple of days and especially your flights!!
ReplyDeleteI wish I had some words of wisdom. I wanted to offer love, prayers and support. I've been following your journey for awhile now, and I'm a huge supporter of RR. I have a bio son Danny who is 5 with Ds. I will continue to pray and hope the flight home is uneventful. Looking forward to the time you post the 'after' pics of the boys when they are nice and healthy, alert, bonded and happy at home with their forever family.
ReplyDeleteI am praying Jesus speaks to and calms the storm in Yuri. That poor little guy. Thank goodness Bohdan is a happy camper. And praying for you!! Home is in sight.
ReplyDeleteThat picture you posted of Bohdan the other day, oh my, I would put it as my wallpaper on my computer it's just THAT adorable- I can't help but be filled with joy when I see it. But posting a picture of someone else's child (instead of my own child) especially, someone I haven't met, seems a bit creepy stalker-ish. lol. I'm so happy that at least one of your sons is easy going and doing okay with all of these changes. Praying hard for all four of you. Being sleep deprieved makes everything more frantic and extreme. And being cold too- yikes. Praying you are able to help soothe little Yuri on this last leg of this amazing life changing journey. Praying that you are able to tune everyone else out, and focus on your family. Praying. Traveling with little ones is always stressful. Traveling with little ones who are so confused and unhappy sounds really really rough. Like others said, you will be blanketed in prayer. Oh could you please tell us what time you think you'll be starting to check in at the airport and what time you'll be arriving back at home? I'd like to know what leg of the journey I'm praying for if it's not too much trouble. Blessings.
ReplyDeleteAutumn! I'll keep praying for Yuri! SO glad Bohdan is having an easy time! Praying that time passes quickly for you guys!
